Andrew K. Sands, M.D.
Foot and Ankle Surgery
Dr. Sands is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and serves on its board of surgical subspecialties. He serves on the board of directors of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, is a founding member of the Spinoza Society, and is a member of the AO-ASIF Foot and Ankle Expert Group, a prestigious international scientific think tank. He is a past president of the Brooklyn Orthopaedic Society.
Dr. Sands earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he became interested in structure, function and biomechanics. After earning his medical degree from New York Medical College, he completed a surgical internship at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Medical Center and an orthopaedic residency at Lenox Hill Hospital. Dr. Sands subsequently served with the Marines in Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Shield and Storm. After completing active duty, he received advanced clinical experience in lower extremity trauma and reconstruction in Seattle at the University of Washington/Harborview Medical Center.
Dr. Sands specializes in orthopaedic trauma, and reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle, including sports medicine, arthroscopy and total ankle replacement.
